Terms of Service

Effective: January 1, 2026  ·  Last updated: March 8, 2026

Plain English Summary

TrueBasis is a structural verification tool. It is not a tax calculator, financial advisor, or legal service. Nothing it produces should be filed with the IRS or treated as authoritative tax guidance without review by a qualified professional.

The public audit form is free to use within the documented free tier (no account required). You agree not to abuse the service or attempt to reverse-engineer the system. We reserve the right to block abusive traffic or revoke access for violations.

The service is provided as-is. We make no guarantees about accuracy or uptime. For a tool processing complex on-chain data, errors are possible — treat all output as input to your own professional review process, not as a final answer.

01

Acceptance of terms

By accessing or using TrueBasis at truebasis.us or submitting an audit request, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

These terms apply to all users, including individual users, CPAs, tax preparers, accountants, and any other professionals using TrueBasis in a client-facing capacity.

02

What TrueBasis is and is not

TrueBasis is an independent structural verification engine. It deterministically reconstructs EVM, Bitcoin, and Solana transaction structure and intent signals to detect classification risk and support reconciliation against third-party tax software outputs.

TrueBasis is not tax software. It does not calculate capital gains, losses, cost basis, or any tax liability. It does not produce output suitable for direct submission to any tax authority. It does not provide legal advice, tax advice, or financial advice of any kind.

Output files produced by TrueBasis — including Excel reports, CSV summaries, mismatch reports, and JSON data files — are analytical tools intended to support professional review. They are not authoritative tax documents and must not be treated as such.

TrueBasis does not calculate or display historical USD values for transactions. Output files are structural and classification data only.

03

Free tier and eligibility

TrueBasis offers open access to the audit tool on a free tier: no account is required to run an audit from the public form. By using the service, you agree to:

The free tier is subject to limits enforced on the server, including approximately 3 audits per 7 days per IP, 800 transactions per audit (hard limit), and fair-use queueing when the system is busy. These limits may change; check the audit page for current copy.

Note: Output ZIP files are automatically deleted one hour after job completion. TrueBasis does not store your results on your behalf. Download your file promptly.

04

Permitted and prohibited use

You may use TrueBasis to:

05

Your data and our responsibilities

You retain ownership of all wallet addresses, uploaded files, and data you submit. By submitting data to TrueBasis, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to process that data solely for the purpose of generating your audit output.

You represent and warrant that:

Our handling of your data is governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated by reference into these terms.

Anonymous usage statistics

TrueBasis offers an optional "Share anonymous usage statistics" feature. Use of this feature is entirely voluntary and requires an affirmative opt-in checkbox at the time of each audit. If you opt in, only aggregate counts (structural classification counts, risk level counts, mismatch type counts, and chain family distribution) are transmitted. No wallet addresses, transaction hashes, or personally identifiable information are included in any submission. A copy of the exact data submitted is included in your audit output for verification. You may review the Privacy Policy for the full list of fields collected and not collected.

06

Output files and reliance

TrueBasis output represents a structural interpretation of on-chain data based on deterministic classification rules applied at the time of the audit. It is intended as an analytical input — not a final determination.

Classification accuracy depends on the quality and completeness of available on-chain data, the correctness of API responses from third-party blockchain explorers, and the coverage of our classification rules for the transaction types present in your wallet history.

You assume full responsibility for how you interpret and act on TrueBasis output. We strongly recommend that any TrueBasis report used in a professional tax context be reviewed by a qualified CPA or tax attorney before any filing decisions are made.

07

Service availability

TrueBasis is an early-stage product hosted on third-party infrastructure. We do not guarantee continuous, uninterrupted availability. The service may be unavailable due to:

We will make reasonable efforts to communicate known outages. We are not liable for any losses resulting from service unavailability.

08

Disclaimers and limitation of liability

TrueBasis is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, TrueBasis and its operators shall not be liable for:

In plain terms: If TrueBasis misclassifies a transaction and you file taxes based on that output without independent professional review, we are not liable for the resulting tax or legal consequences. Use this tool as an input to a professional process, not as a substitute for one.

09

Termination and access revocation

We reserve the right to suspend or block use of the service (including by IP or other technical means) at any time, with or without notice, for any reason, including but not limited to:

Upon suspension, pending audit jobs may be cancelled without delivery of output files. We have no obligation to retain or deliver output files after access is blocked.

10

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the product evolves. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of TrueBasis after updated terms are posted constitutes acceptance.

11

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States. Any disputes arising from use of TrueBasis shall be resolved through binding arbitration or in the courts of applicable jurisdiction, as required by law.

12
